Hi friends,
I’m reaching out with some hopeful news about my sweet dog, Casper. He was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a very aggressive bone cancer, and we were originally told it had already spread to his lungs. But after getting a second opinion (vet history attached), we found out there’s no sign of metastasis, which completely changes his chances. He actually has a real shot.
Casper is only four years old, and tomorrow he’s having his rear left leg amputated to remove the tumor. The surgery will cost between $2,500 and $3,000 AUD, and after that, he’ll begin six rounds of chemotherapy at SASH in Sydney, estimated at around $7,000. That doesn’t include medication, travel, or time off work to care for him, but thankfully, insurance will hopefully cover about 60 percent of the total.
It’s still a lot. And honestly, I wouldn’t be asking if I didn’t believe Casper really had a chance. His oncology specialist says that because there’s no spread, he has a rare but real 25 percent chance of living more than two years, which is almost unheard of with this disease.
We’re going to fight for that time. Casper is still so full of life. If you’re in a position to help us through this—whether by donating, sharing this page, or just sending some love—thank you. Every bit helps.
Love,
Lily & Brendan Hill
