<div>The recovery period necessitates a leave of absence from work for 3 to 4 weeks. Although Short Term Disability will provide 60% of her usual income, Carmen is the sole earner for her family, which includes her wife and 19-month-old child.

<div>A significant concern is the financial burden, as bills from pre-surgery copays have accumulated. Furthermore, the family must meet a substantial out-of-pocket maximum for the surgery itself. As a result, Carmen is worried about covering essential, day-to-day expenses.
