<div>Carlos Ortiz, known to his old friends as “Nana” and to new friends as “Chuck,” is one of those rare individuals who always greet you with a smile, extend a helping hand, and lead with a generous heart.

<div>At 43 years old, Carlos works at Total Wine to support his home, where he lives with his elderly mother, who is no longer able to work. His life took a sudden turn on June 8th when he suffered a stroke and was rushed to St. Thomas Hospital in El Paso, TX. He spent 4 days in the ICU, then was moved to a regular room, and later transferred to The Hospitals of Providence Rehabilitation Hospital East, where he spent 12 days receiving physical and speech therapy.

<div>Thankfully, Carlos was discharged on June 26th, but the recovery journey is far from over. He now needs outpatient therapy and a neurologist’s care to regain as much of his everyday life as possible.

<div>Carlos is the sole provider for his household. Now, more than ever, he needs our help to cover medical expenses, therapy, medications, transportation, and basic living costs during his recovery.

<div>Carlos Ortiz, conocido por los viejos amigos como “Nana” y por los nuevos como “Chuck”, es una de esas personas que siempre tienen una sonrisa, una mano extendida y un corazón dispuesto.

<div>A sus 43 años, Carlos trabaja en Total Wine para sostener su hogar, donde vive con su mamá, una señora mayor que ya no trabaja. Su vida dio un giro inesperado el pasado 8 de junio, cuando sufrió un derrame cerebral y fue llevado de emergencia al hospital St. Thomas en El Paso, TX. Estuvo 4 días en terapia intensiva (ICU), luego fue trasladado a un cuarto regular, y más tarde al Hospital de Rehabilitación The Hospitals of Providence East, donde pasó 12 días recibiendo terapias física y de habla.

<div>Gracias a Dios, Carlos fue dado de alta el 26 de junio, pero su camino de recuperación apenas comienza. Necesita ahora terapias ambulatorias y atención de un neurólogo para recuperar, en la medida de lo posible, su vida normal.
