 On the day before the 4th of July, Independence Day, Silvio was detained on his way to work. Silvio is from Mexico and has been here since the age of 16 and is now being detained far away in California, leaving Carla, who is from El Salvador, with their 15-month-old, Mateo, all alone with no emotional support to raise their baby. Silvio was the breadwinner and without him, the baby and Carla were significantly impacted. The family car has not been returned.

 Carla and Silvio loved spending time together with their baby. Silvio was so proud of his bouncing baby boy! Mateo's certificate of his christening is proudly displayed on the wall in their home.

 Carla loves her baby and spends as much time with him as possible, but she had to find work to survive the loss of Silvio's income. She is working 3 to 4 days per week painting apartments and now childcare fees, and transportation costs are an additional expense added to rent, groceries, utilities, and more. Her income is not enough to meet her family financial needs. She really needs some help from the community to keep their heads above water.

Silvio es originario de México y reside aquí desde los 16 años; actualmente se encuentra detenido en California, muy lejos de casa. Esta situación ha dejado a Carla, originaria de El Salvador, completamente sola y sin apoyo emocional para criar a Mateo, el hijo de ambos, que tiene 15 meses. Silvio era el principal sustento económico de la familia y su ausencia ha afectado profundamente tanto al bebé como a Carla. Además, el automóvil familiar aún no ha sido devuelto.
