Help Cara Fight Cancer!

If you know Cara Peters, you know she is one of those amazing humans you feel lucky to have in your life. She is fun and funny, loving and warm, witty and sharp. She’s always ready to lend an open ear and open heart to anyone in need. She is an incredible mom to her 5 year old daughter Chloe, and a loving partner to her fiancé Anna. The three of them share a beautiful life together and project their happiness to the world, every day. However, that happiness was threatened when it was discovered that Cara had been diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

While Cara had been experiencing several odd symptoms, and unexplained health issues, no one ever imagined it was cancer. As a healthy 31 year old, general physicians shrugged off her symptoms as an infection, the flu, something that could be cured with simple over the counter medication. After months of misdiagnoses, her symptoms culminated to severe shortness of breath and chest pain. On August 29th she was rushed to the ER where a PET-CT scan soon revealed a large cancerous tumor in her chest, with smaller ones in her armpits and neck. The initial shock of the diagnosis was shattering. After all, it was just days prior that we were celebrating home ownership, her engagement, and Coco’s first year of school. Somehow, through the devastation and uncertainty of receiving the news, Cara – determined as ever – accepted her diagnosis with a positive and fighting attitude, and was anxious to start treatment and rid her body of this cancer.

While in the hospital, Cara immediately underwent chemotherapy. It was after her first round of chemo that things took a turn for the worse. Early in the morning on September 8th, suffering from a rare and life threatening allergic reaction to the chemo meds, Cara crashed. Doctors rushed in to perform an immediate intubation. She was transferred to the ICU where she was hooked up to a ventilator with a questionable prognosis. After an unbearable 36 hours, Cara’s vitals were trending upward, and she was weaned off the vent. Over time, her body strengthened, and her breathing continued to improve. She was cleared to leave the ICU, and on September 16th she was deemed strong enough for outpatient care. Now on a different treatment plan, she is stable enough to fight her cancer from home, with the comfort of her daughter, partner, and wiener dog nearby. She will continue to receive chemotherapy for the next 6 months, followed by 2-3 months of radiation. The cancer has taken her health, her energy, and her hair, but it hasn’t taken her strength, perseverance, and hope. If anything, it has made her love for life grow stronger, and made her more determined to fight this with everything she has.

Battling this cancer is now Cara’s full time job. With the time she’ll miss from work for months of treatment, coupled with her increasing medical expenses, Cara and her family are now fighting two battles. While we cannot help her physically fight off this cancer, this fundraising is something we can do. It is our hope that with this fund, we will overwhelm her with love and support, and hopefully a bit of financial assistance that will alleviate the burden of all those looming medical bills. Even if you can only give $1, a prayer, or words of encouragement, everything and anything is beyond appreciated. Let’s shower Cara and her family with love and support, so that she can use 100% of her strength to kick this cancer’s ass!

The strength that Cara has showcased throughout her battle continues to be remarkable, and inspiring. Her joy, optimism, and hope – unwavering. Let’s do this!!
