I’m going to be honest: this has been a rough summer beyond having a baby while running for State Rep.
Some of you have been lucky enough to meet my campaign manager Candice, a hardworking single mom of three, but many of you have not.
At the end of Spring, Candice and I spent several weeks working together to end her homelessness. Just before her 30th birthday, her apartment flooded with sewage and she & her kids lost everything. They spent her birthday in a shelter.
We managed to get her a lease with affordable rent, ready for her to move in before her 31st birthday.
Ten days before her birthday, she went into the hospital needing a routine gallbladder surgery. The surgeon made a life-threatening error.
Candice spent not only her birthday, but also nearly two full months in the hospital.
Her awesome kids missed their mom for almost this whole summer and we can’t get that time back, but I’m hoping we can help to continue to prevent her homelessness and help her keep the lights on (literally) until she is able to work again.
The earnings she had from my campaign have helped her cover rent so far, but she has not yet been able to return to work and rent is due again Sept 1st.
She has lawyers working on her malpractice case, but it will be a long time before any financial resolution happens there.
Please help me help Candice focus on healing and let her kids enjoy middle school and elementary school without worrying about whether or not they will be able to stay in their apartment.
