Camilo* is a father of three who was placed in deportation proceedings after fleeing Honduras around 18 years ago. An immigration judge was so moved by Camilo’s dedication to his job, the numerous letters from friends and family in his support, and strong ties to the United States that he was granted deportation relief and given status to remain in the United States.
However, because the government appealed the judge’s ruling, Camilo remained in immigration detention until November 2017. During this time, he was unable to support his family financially, resulting in his eldest son dropping out of school and starting work to keep the family afloat during this extremely difficult time. However, without Camilo, the family’s main breadwinner, it was not enough. Despite a happy reunion with his family after spending around 10 months in detention and returning to his job as a butcher (Camilo’s employer extremely values him and has kept Camilo's job open for him), Camilo owes $3,000** in rent by January 10th and risks losing his apartment. The situation is especially precarious because, in addition to fighting the government’s appeal of his case, Camilo is also helping his 14-year-old son who struggles with depression and has been diagnosed with a liver disorder. While Camilo is working and doing everything he can to keep his family together and ensure his son receives adequate medical care, he needs your help.
