Help Camacho repay for his stolen bikes.

We are here to ask you and the greater cycling community to support our friend and local bicycle mechanic Roberto Camacho, whose workshop was burglarized the week of 12/13/20 leaving him with tens of thousands of dollars in debt.
Bicycles have become a main means of transportation, mental therapy and exercise for many people living through the Covid-19 pandemic. As interest in bikes has risen so have service wait times at many local shops, sometimes in excess of 6 weeks. Although local bicycle shops are busy working 9-5, many mechanics find it difficult to make ends meet, especially during the holidays. Camacho is one of these mechanics, having dedicated his life to serving cyclists as a local technician for the last 7 years. In an attempt to better serve the East Bay cycling community, Camacho began working out of a private workshop, oftentimes late into the night, to fill in for service needs created by long wait times and also supplement his modest income in preparation for the holidays.
Last week, a group of thieves broke into Camacho’s workshop, stealing all 3 of his personal bikes and 4 bikes belonging to his customers. The thieves appear to have cased his workshop and struck while he was working his other job. As a skilled mountain bike technician, Camacho was working on several performance mountain bikes at the time. The total value of all stolen bikes was in excess of $30,000. These thieves have forced Camacho out of his workshop, left him in debt to his customers and stolen every one of his personal bikes. To make these times even harder, he must now comb the streets for any information related to the theft, stay in contact with local police and continue to work full time to pay his bills. Several local mechanics began this GoFundMe to garner support for our friend in his time of need.
Camacho has been a staple at local bike shops over the years, servicing your bikes, leading local trail rides, welcoming countless individuals into the cycling community and advocating for cycling as a whole. Our goal for this fundraiser is $30,000 so that Roberto Camacho can make his customers whole, replace his own bikes and pay his bills. We realize that times are hard but any little bit would go a long way to help our friend. We are continuing to search for these bikes on the streets, through online sales platforms and with the help of Fremont police. If you see or hear anything that could help us retrieve these bikes or catch the crooks responsible please reach out with information to Roberto directly, your local bike shop or the Fremont Police Department.
