<div>My name is Cameron Steward, known by friends and family as Cam/Camboozle. I’m a 34 year old drummer and warehouse manager for a water treatment company living in Lubbock, Tx. On January 20th, 2025 I was admitted to UMC hospital after going to the ER for fatigue, trouble breathing, and coughing up blood. After running multiple tests through the course of a couple of weeks, I was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a type of kidney failure, and pneumonia. IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger's disease, is a chronic kidney disease that occurs when immunoglobulin A (IgA) protein builds up in the kidneys. IgA is a protein that helps the body fight infections. When too much IgA accumulates in the kidneys, it damages them and prevents them from filtering waste and excess water from the blood. This can lead to inflammation and kidney damage. I was told by the nephrology team at UMC that it was caused by a respiratory infection I had back in August of 2024, my body produced too many antibodies which ended up attacking my kidneys and leading to gradual kidney failure over the coming months. As a result, I’ve had to be on hemodialysis since my admission, and have faced multiple complications with the catheter that was placed in my stomach and have had to be admitted back to the hospital twice and faced additional surgeries to fix the catheter so I can do dialysis at home instead of having to have my blood cleaned through a machine in a clinic which has impacted my full time employment and restricted my passion for playing music. I am asking for $50,000 to help towards my various medical expenses since I did not have any health insurance at the beginning of my kidney journey. These bills include surgery fees such as anesthesia, surgical fees, and the cost of having to be on hemodialysis as an uninsured patient.
