We love sharing our horses with the community! To us, there is no other animal more important than the Horse.
Please help us care for our horses, so when this passes, we can again share this magnificent animal for generations to come.
The below pictures are all recent, but our barn doors have been closed since March 21, 2020. We now have no income and the same expenses. There are no real ways to "cut" corners in the care of livestock. And these really aren't just livestock, the horses are our friends and therapists.

More About California Riding Academy
As the owner and founder of California Riding Academy (Above photo: Jessica Harrell middle, pictured with her main instructors Sierra and Amelia), I am personally responsible for the full care and cost of 23 horses and ponies, 16 of which service the San Francisco Bay Area community with lessons, camps and US Pony Club, among other services. While 2 are retired school horses, 1 is a show pony recovering from an injury, and 4 others are being trained for future CRA service.
While raising 3 small children, I founded CRA in November 2008, in the midst of a massive recession. We flourished, and I used the success to build CRA into something bigger and more wonderful! CRA can and will succeed again. But in order to do so, the horses must endure this hardship while we are not bringing in revenue from our services to the community.
Current CRA Situation/Crisis
Just this January/February 2020, after 11 years in Portola Valley, and only 15 months after moving to Pacifica, we finally felt the pressure lessen as our hard work and dedication had spread through the community and we were experiencing the joy and satisfaction of a job well done.
We launched US Pony Club, which has been amazing, but we are now under a required USPC 30-day stay. CRA welcomed horse-loving children and adults of all levels, sadly we can no longer accept new clients. CRA Summer Camps are completely on-hold. COVID-19 has jeopardized our ability not only to grow, but also provide the horse’s continued care as we all try to digest the magnitude of this event, and we all work to navigate back to a sense of sanity.
Current Students and Initial Plan
All of this happened so quickly, we came up with an initial protocol to continue services for our current students, the majority of which would have loved to. But the restrictions quickly became more serious. Some students are offering to donate their lessons, for which we are ENORMOUSLY thankful, while a couple are reactive because the stress is so overwhelming for them. We understand, no-one remains unaffected.
03/21/2020: Update, CRA closed the barn to the public.
Our goal is to survive, but we are honestly in an unbelievable situation of caring for our horses now without any income.
Who Needs the Assistance
Please help feed and care for: Pacifica horses include Big, Princess, Cody, Pacman, Merlin, Bogart, Morgan, Sprinkles, Black Jack, Kashmere, Vegas, Toby, Keanu, Gypsy and Eros. If you are a current student, you know most of these horses and ponies. Offsite horses include Jazz, Mr. Toad, Ozzie, Eclipse, Cruisin', Janga and Goose.
What The Horses Need
Any donated funds will go towards the rent of our facility (for the stalls, tack room, arena, the clubhouse where we conduct Pony Club and Summer Camps, etc.), feed, bedding, medications, veterinary care, farrier services (shoes and trims), supplies and other supportive needs or equipment. It will also be used to pay the staff for not only the sustenance work of feeding and cleaning stalls, but the more skilled CRA staff who keep the horse's trained, exercised and safe for our clients. Our monthly base expenses are $24-$26K for just our horses in Pacifica.
If you love horses too, please consider giving whatever you can to facilitate the horse's subsistence through this. Also, PLEASE SHARE on your social media platforms with others who may also want to help save our horses.
