Help with Cale's road to recovery

Donation protected
We are asking first and foremost prayers for Cale. Cale is my Nephew who is 20 yrs old. On Wednesday March 14th Cale was in a bad car wreck.  The driver lost control flipping the car several times.  Cale was in the back seat and was ejected from the car.  Cale has suffered from several broken ribs and a broken 10th vertebrae that was twisted completely out of place.  He has been paralyzed from the waist down.  First thoughts were that his spine had been cut.  The doctors have been preparing him for this to be permanent and that he may never walk again.  He under went a very long 7.5 hour surgery on Friday March 16th to fix and replace his broken vertebrae.  The Dr was successful in repairing it and welding it to the 9th and 11th vertebrae to stabilize the broken one.  After an MRI and the surgery they reported that the spine had not been cut as originally suspected.  However, the dr. did not know if this would increase the chances of feeling returning.  There is a lot of swelling around the spine but the surgery allowed the dr. to decompress the spine a significant amount. Time will tell if this will help Cale to regain feeling in his lower body.  They are still treating Cale as though this is permanent.

Cale and the family have been told that he will remain in ICU until Wednesday March 21st (one week from the accident) then will move to a regular room for 7-10 days.  They started Physical Therapy (PT) on Cale yesterday.  Once he is released from the hospital he will have to continue rehab.  There is talk of sending him to Colorado to Craig  Rehab Hospital.  This is more than just physical therapy, this facility would teach him everything he needs to know to be wheelchair bound the rest of his life.  They would help him with a lot more than just working the muscles in his legs.  It is a place that would help him physically and psychologically to return home in the best state to continue his life as normally as possible.  Craig Rehab Hospital is a specialty rehab center for spinal cord and brain trauma.

I started this page to raise money to help Cale, my sister (his mom) and his dad with their financial expenses through this recovery time.  They have applied for financial assistance in the hospital but still awaiting approval. However, the family is currently an hour away from the hospital and there are expenses accruing just to be there to be with Cale.  The driver of the car was uninsured.  Cale does not currently have any kind of health insurance as he was not a student or working.  My sister is out of a job right now and Cale's dad is stationed in San Antonio for the air force.  All around there are travel expenses adding up, not to mention long term what the cost of medical bills will be and the cost of medical equipment.  There will need to be things done to the house when he returns home and that will be another down the road expense.  We are asking you to please donate to help this young man have everything he needs to recover from this life changing accident.

If you are unable to give please take a moment and say a pray for Cale.  I know that our God is the most powerful healer of all.  He can move mountains and I believe that he has a plan in this for all of us to be part of executing.

Thank you all for taking time to click on read Cale's story we are blessed to have you here.  Again from Cale and the rest of the family "Thank you all."
