Help CAEPA to Provide a Better Future for Women

CAEPA Cameroon is a UN supported NGO fighting against gender-based violence in the North Western regions of Cameroon. The organisation aims to provide vulnerable women with emotional support, mental health support, reproductive health education and vocational training so that they can find their independence and build a brighter future for themselves and the generations that will follow them.

Over the last four years, the Anglophone Crisis has engulfed Cameroon in a brutal conflict. What started as peaceful strikes to end the marginalisation of English-speaking regions in the country quickly turned into violent revolts, with government forces and anti-government forces clashing, plunging the country into destructive conflict. It remains unclear how and when the crisis will end. To date, over 2 000 civilians have been killed, 180 villages have been burnt down and some 160 000 refugees have settled in Nigerian camps while more than 200 000 citizens have been considered internally displaced persons (IDPs), the majority of them being women. An estimated 274,908 civilians are currently internally displaced in the NWR. As the conflict continues widespread political upheaval, displacement, disease and unimaginable sexual violence have ripped apart communities.

In response to the conflict, and with their goal of Women's Rights in clear view, CAEPA set up the City of Hope Women's Centre which aims to provide a safe space for vulnerable women who have been victim to unspeakable violence. This safe space includes counselling sessions, emotional support, life skill sharing and training and education in the hope that these women will over time be able to regain their independence and rebuild a better life for themselves and the young girls that will follow after them.

The particular project they are raising funds for is a sewing and life skills training programme that will benefit 60 women and girls directly, victims of sexual and gender-based violence, and 360 women & girls indirectly. The aim is to enrol 60 women on the programme and provide them with sewing and tailoring skills, taught by a professional, as well as entrepreneurial skills and mental health and self esteem support. This will provide the women with a new lease of life after the atrocities they have been victim to and increase their chances of employability and therefore in turn reduce and hopefully eradicate poverty among the community. CAEPA aims to provide sustainable solutions to problems facing these communities and these women will learn skills that they will be able to pass on to younger generations.

The CAEPA City of Hope Women's Centre need YOUR help to raise funds for equipment and staffing for the project and would greatly appreciate if you could donate for this brilliant cause. Don't hesitate to also share the cause with friends and family who might be interested in helping CAEPA reach their goal.
