Hello!

 

My name is Aaron Ansuini and I'm raising money for my cat, Caelum, who very suddenly injured his spine.

 

We woke up yesterday to find that Caelum very suddenly could not walk and could hardly stand. We took him to the emergency vet and got X-rays that revealed an injury between his 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae. Caelum is an indoor cat who is very well cared for and my partner and I both work from home, so we suspect that the only way he could have sustained this injury was by falling from a high perch or bookshelf while we were sleeping.

 

My partner and I were just barely able to cover yesterday's emergency vet bill--we set aside 50$ a month every month to cover his health costs and prepare for emergencies. Our other cat, Bambino, has pet insurance. Caelum, however, was not eligible due to a heart condition. So we always need to cover his costs out of pocket, and yesterday's vet bill ripped through everything we had in an instant.

 

This fundraiser is time-sensitive--the vet told us that we need to get him to a neurologist for an MRI within the next 2 weeks, otherwise his injury will become permanent (and could become worse). But the MRI alone is $4000, and that doesn't include the cost of seeing the neurologist or getting him treatment (which we have been informed will almost definitely be surgery). In the meantime, he is not allowed to move (or even try moving) and needs to be kept in a crate sedated to prevent making his injury worse. I can't leave him like this.

 

My cat is hurt, and I don't want to let him suffer and potentially die from complications just because I can't afford the vet bill to get him treated for his injury. Please help me help him, if you can. He's my best friend.

The "goal" we've set for this fundraiser is based on the "best-case scenario" estimate the vet gave us yesterday, should we be able to get him treated in time. If things get worse, treating him will become more expensive. So for now,  we are focused on preventing it from getting worse and getting him help ASAP.
