Cactus is my 16-year-old senior cat who I have grown up with since I was 5 years old and he was a kitten. He is my best friend, and sleeps every night in my arms. A few weeks ago, he stopped eating properly and became jaundiced. I rushed him to the ER vet as soon as I saw yellow, and they gave me two options: euthanasia or thousands of dollars to maybe save him. I had them give fluids, some medications, an appetite stimulant, and brought him home. The next morning, I brought him to my regular vet, who gave more medication for his liver, a second stimulant, and gabapentin. It was up to Cactus if he chose to live or not. All of this helped, and he is choosing to live! He is no longer jaundiced but still on the mend, requiring vet visits once a week until he is better.
A month prior, my 5-year-old cat Sage was having issues urinating. My regular vet offices were full and the closest ER was very expensive, but I had to take him due to the life-threatening nature of his condition. I could not afford thousands of dollars to flush him, so I got a prescription diet of crystal-dissolving food to help, as well as the vet pushing subcutaneous fluids. He still didn’t pee in 24 hours. After a second visit to a different ER vet for pain meds and to get his bladder squeezed, this helped and he is now better and urinating like normal. However, the vet bills are high. I only have 5 months to pay off the bills, which are highly expensive for me. I am a full-time college student working two part-time jobs, and most of my income goes to bills and my pets’ food, so I am barely getting by. I need to pay off the debt before interest occurs on the care credit card, but the maximum allowed payment plan was only a few months.
Any donation big or small would help me be able to keep giving my pets the best care I can give them right now. We would be so incredibly grateful to anyone even just sharing this. If we could make enough to pay off even half of the bills I would be astounded and eternally grateful.
