Prairie Culture is a grassroots community art and mutual aid center in downtown St. Joseph. We are in the process of building out the space inside of Mokaska Coffee and setting up a People's Pantry for shelf-stable and fresh foods (as well as self-care supplies like toiletries, naloxone, emergency contraception, and gender-affirming items), a radical 'zine library, and creative space where we can distribute mutual aid (emergency shelter, rent assistance, grocery delivery, trans healthcare, and more).
This organization was founded by poet Canese Jarboe with a portion of grant funds from a 2025 NEA creative writing fellowship. Much of this has already been used for emergency shelter for an at-risk community member. All donations go to Prairie Culture's work in St. Joseph, Missouri.
As we continue building our pantry and library, as well as distribute mutual aid funds, we will update this space. Feel encouraged to reach out with questions.
Thank you!
