<div>I am a Boy Scout from Natomas and a Junior at NP3 High School. I am trying to fund my Eagle Project. My goal is to build interactive hydroponic gardens inspired by the RISE garden. The goal is to teach kids K-12 about sustainability and plant biology in an interactive setting. Many people who go to my school do not have room for outdoor gardening, so bringing gardening into the classroom is a key enrichment activity that could change how people view food and farming in the long run.

<div>Students need interactive labs to learn more efficiently

<div>Many students, including myself, struggle to understand the importance of plant biology when we are being taught it in school. As urban sprawl takes up more land, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides pollute our soil and water supply, it is more important than ever to explore new farming methods. Hydroponic use 90% less water, no toxic or dangerous chemicals, and offer significantly more efficient growth rates. Additionally, hydroponic gardens are typically in controlled environments like greenhouses, allowing continuous growth. These farms can be located in urban environments, bringing our food sources closer and eliminating food insecurity in urban areas. Hydroponics are the future of sustainable farming. So, by making an interactive setting that shows how the science we learn can be implemented, there will be more student engagement and a more lasting impact.
