Help Build a Sloth Rescue Center on Isla Colon, Panama

We are now legally permitted by the Panamanian Ministry of Environment to run a Sloth Rescue Center and we need your help to get set up! We are government permitted, but NOT government funded. We rely entirely on donations to help the sloths.

There has been an injured or orphaned sloth in our care every day since we helped our first patient back in January 2022. To date we have treated over 60 sloths, from all the islands and the mainland. Almost all cases were a result of a dog attack or vehicle - which is why KBW is so passionate about preserving and connecting the canopy with rope bridges, as well as replanting trees. We have helped many more sloths without admitting them as patients by reuniting babies with moms, relocating sloths to safety, or assessing them for injury when needed.

All the sloths have been helped to the best of our ability, however with the numbers continually increasing, Bocas is in need of a fully equipped Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. In the very short time we have had our permits we have already admitted 8 sloths, including an adult male Two Toed who had surgery on his injured arm this past week. Another newborn baby Two Toed was found on her mother who was most likely killed by a dog. Fortunately, after a rough start the baby is now healthy and growing quickly, just as the adult male is recovering. Soon, both of them will need outdoor enclosures to begin climbing in.

Our goal is to return the sloths back to the wild where they belong. Located on almost 30 acres of pristine jungle, the Rescue Center will allow the sloths to be rehabilitated in their natural surroundings without disturbance. We have been waiting a long time for these permits, and your donations will be put to use immediately! Follow us on Social Media, where we will share the progress of the Center and the sloths in care.

Our first fundraising goal is to cover multiple small enclosures used as a safe space for sloths recovering from injury, and babies to practise climbing. We also require small enclosures to quarantine new sloths. We need everything from medical supplies and equipment to rescue gear, and any donation, big or small, will help us as we establish the Bocas Sloth Rescue and Rehabilitation Center.
