Help Build a Clinic for Teguegnen in Labe, Guinea

Fund Raising Proposal
The proposal is to build a health center for the people living in the rural and remote district of Teguegnen located in the mountainous region of Labe in Middle Guinea. This health center would include:
- A clinic to provide basic health services
- A maternity ward for pregnant women
- A hospitalization center where people with more serious health issues or people coming from very remote villages will be hosted.
- A residence for the doctor and the nurse residence.
- A well to supply the center with clean and drinkable water
- A Solar panels to provide electricity to the clinic and the residence.
There are currently no health facilities in this village. The nearest hospital is located more than 30 miles away, and for more complicated health issues, the people of Teguegnen must travel 12 hours to the capital Conakry to get care. There is a small and ill-equipped clinic in the main town, “Kouramangui'', which is 7 miles away, but transportation is not easily accessible, and the only road leading to this town is in terrible condition. Therefore residents of Teguegnen and the surrounding communities must walk most of the time, or be carried on makeshift stretchers, or on the backs of their caregivers to the clinic.
These factors are the main reasons people decide not to seek medical care and are therefore dying of preventable or treatable diseases (malaria, typhoid fever, waterborne diseases, etc.) and complications related to pregnancies and childbirth. In the past few years, there has also been an uptick in the number of people dying of strokes and other heart diseases. Therefore, having a more accessible health center that will also emphasize prevention by educating the local population will significantly improve health conditions in the district and the surrounding villages. Most importantly, it will significantly decrease deaths from treatable diseases and complications related to pregnancies and childbirth.
The Teguegnen Health Center will include a clinic to offer basic and emergency medical services, a maternity ward to provide maternal and child healthcare services. The center will also include a hospitalization area for people with more serious health issues or people coming from very remote villages.
The main goal of the health clinic is to facilitate access to care to the hardworking population of Teguegnen and the surrounding villages in order to reduce mortality from treatable diseases. The clinic will provide treatment for malaria, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, waterborne diseases. The center will also provide care for women during pregnancy and childbirth. It will also provide care for newborn infants, and may act as a centre for hygiene and nutritional health training, especially for women.
We are seeking a total of $50,000 for this project. This amount will cover the costs of building and equipping the health center and to supply it with electricity and potable water, landscaping, and sanitation. It will also cover the costs of building a residential unit for the doctor and the nurse. Since the community has taken responsibility for the project with our help, the Guinean Government has guaranteed staffing once it is finished.

About NAFFA
NAFFA is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 with the aim to facilitate the integration of African immigrant and refugee communities into their new home here in Oregon. We do this through social, moral and material support. We also promote understanding, support, and integration between African Americans and Africans throughout the diaspora. While most of our work is focused here in Oregon, we also have projects that we work on outside of the United States, specifically in Africa.

Community Development: By promoting and supporting the education, entrepreneurship and social development of Africans and African Americans in the Pacific Northwest.
Education: Promote literacy and education in Africa by providing access to learning and information through alphabetization using the ADLaM Script and providing financial support for African students in the Pacific Northwest through our scholarship fund.
Civic and Community engagement: Organize workshops such as “Know Your Rights” and also actively advocate for Africans.
Health: Develop strategic partnerships in Africa to support the work of various community health centers and improve the health of underserved communities. Health promotion and disease prevention through sports and activities.
