Ensuring Accessibility at Buchanan Oasis Farmstead

Today, I had the privilege of hosting a truly memorable group visit at Buchanan Oasis Farmstead. Five clients from Precise Home Healthcare, including three cherished war veterans, came to enjoy a peaceful day on the farm with their caregivers. Watching these gentlemen share laughter and stories about their Southern childhoods while relaxing by the chickens and goats was an experience I will never forget.

But as heartwarming as the day was, it highlighted an important need. Every visitor relied on walkers or wheelchairs, and our farm’s uneven terrain posed a challenge. While we took our time and made the most of the day, I realized that without better accessibility options, they couldn’t explore the full beauty of the farm—like our market garden or the tranquil forest area.

This is why I’m launching a fundraising campaign to raise funds for a Golf Cart or UTV. This addition would make Buchanan Oasis Farmstead accessible to all, ensuring that everyone—regardless of mobility—can fully experience everything the farm has to offer.

With a golf cart, we’ll be able to transport visitors across all areas of the farm, from the market garden to the quiet forest, creating inclusive and unforgettable experiences for everyone who steps onto our land. The veterans from Precise are already planning their return next season, and I want to ensure that when they do, they—and all future guests—will have a seamless, accessible tour.
