 For those of you who have been following Brock's journey, you know he has a displaced break
</div>

 in his right femur. And for those unfamiliar with his journey... I'm going to give a synopsis of his
</div>
<div>
 story.
</div>
<div>

 Rescue Organization Info:

<div>
 I am a foster for “Haven of Love Dog Rescue” and reside in Michigan. I am local to the area of
</div>
<div>
 Pinckney. “Haven of Love Dog Rescue” is a 501c3 non-profit located in Westland, Michigan.
</div>
<div>
 Initial Rescue &amp; Assessment
</div>
<div>
 Laurie from “Haven” called one evening a few days after my current foster had been adopted.
</div>
<div>
 She wanted to know if I would be willing to take on Broccoli. He had no back story, but she
</div>
<div>
 knew he was limping and in really bad condition—extremely malnourished and matted down to
</div>
<div>
 the skin everywhere on his body.
</div>
<div>
 Laurie met me in Fowlerville, Michigan to make the exchange easier for me. The vet I use for
</div>
<div>
 the fosters is Kern Rd. Veterinary Clinic located in Fowlerville.
</div>
<div>
 I went directly to the vet after I picked him up so he could be assessed. X-rays were taken and
</div>
<div>
 fractures were found in two legs:
</div>
<div>
 ● Right Femur: Broken and displaced by around 1” to 1¼”.
</div>
<div>
 ● Left Front Leg: Displaced elbow separated by ¼”.
</div>
<div>
 Brock's condition was so poor he could not have any vaccinations or microchip placement. The
</div>
<div>
 vet gave me the lowdown on how poor of condition he really was. My first goal was to slowly get
</div>
<div>
 some groceries in him to acclimate him to processing food, get him groomed, and start him on
</div>
<div>
 pain meds.
</div>
<div>
 Road to Recovery
</div>
<div>
 I took him home with me and laid him on a therapeutic dog bed. He laid very still and was quiet.
</div>
<div>
 I brought water to him and a tiny bit of food. Now, he was on a small amount of food every two
</div>
<div>
 hours 24/7 and drinking as much as he wanted to counter his dehydration.
</div>
<div>
 All of this started on a Tuesday. He needed a day to rest, eat, and drink. On Tuesday a
</div>
<div>
 grooming appointment was made at Royal Canine in Pinckney for early Thursday morning.
</div>
<div>
 After 3 hours of "just get it done" grooming, I cried uncle for Brock—he had enough—and then
</div>
<div>
 he was bathed. I'm surprised he held in there for as long as he did. I supported his injured legs
</div>
<div>
 during the groom; he laid down for a good part of it.
</div>
<div>
 My dog was great comfort for him. His first night he whined and cried. Teddy (my dog) laid next
</div>
<div>
 to the ex-pen I had set up for Brock. With Teddy lying next to the pen, it was soothing for Brock,
</div>
<div>
 Daily Life &amp; Management
</div>
<div>
 The love he gives is unending, from the way he plops his head onto you to the snuggles that
</div>
<div>
 follow. His tail is almost always wagging, except on days when his pain flares up—that is when
</div>
<div>
 his tail drops.
</div>
<div>
 I have a ridiculous number of dog beds for him to choose from, and he currently plays musical
</div>
<div>
 beds between them. After his bath and grooming, Brock started sleeping with Teddy and me.
</div>
<div>
 The ramp leading up to my bed helps him immensely, and I also installed a wheelchair ramp in
</div>
<div>
 the garage. No stairs for Mr. B!
</div>

 Separation Anxiety &amp; Triggers
</div>
<div>
 By the time he was finally ready for his neuter at the end of June, he had not been left home
</div>
<div>
 alone with Teddy even once. In fact, I hadn't been to a store since he first arrived. The very first
</div>
<div>
 time I stepped inside a grocery store was while he was in surgery. Poor Brock suffers from acute
</div>
<div>
 separation anxiety, but we are making small steps forward. I can now step outside to throw
</div>
<div>
 away the trash without him having an instant meltdown.
</div>
<div>
 To help desensitize him, I have been changing clothes two or three times a day, putting shoes
</div>
<div>
 on and off, picking up keys to carry around, and walking through the house with my purse. All of
</div>
<div>
 these used to trigger his panic about me leaving. Doing this routinely has helped lessen his
</div>
<div>
 anxiety in small but meaningful ways.
</div>
<div>
 Loud noises still terrify him. Thunderstorms were his biggest nemesis until the 4th of July, when
</div>
<div>
 the fear switched over to fireworks.
</div>
<div>
 We have gradually settled into routines that work for both of us, though each day brings its own
</div>
<div>
 new challenges.
</div>
<div>
 GoFundMe for His Surgery
</div>
<div>
 It is imperative that Brock gets the surgery on his femur; without it, he will never be free from
</div>
<div>
 pain. He is such a wonderful dog and truly deserves to live comfortably as he prepares to
</div>
<div>
 transition to his forever home.
</div>
<div>
 That is why Haven and I have started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of his
</div>
<div>
 procedure. Haven regularly steps up for medical cases like Brock's that might otherwise end in
</div>
<div>
 euthanasia. However, a major surgery like this puts a heavy strain on rescue funds, which risks
</div>
<div>
 putting another dog's life-changing surgery on hold.
</div>
<div>
 If you are able to contribute toward his surgical costs, I would be moved beyond words. It
</div>
<div>
 breaks my heart to think that another rescue dog might have to wait for needed care due to
</div>
<div>
 limited funds.
</div>
<div>
 We understand that times are financially tough for many, and giving isn't always easy. Even any donation is a great help. If by some chance we reach our goal the extra funds will go towards future rescues in need of surgery.
