Help Brixton Run Again

Donation protected
Our dear fur baby Brixton is a runner. He is quick, agile, majestic and can run like the wind.  From the instant we get out of bed, his excitement slowly builds until it's time for his morning run. Then, like an arrow released from the bow, he's off running across the fields and through the woods, covering as much ground as he can with the wind in his face and mud between his paws. This is what he lives for.

On Monday, 3 February, Brixton was out doing what he does - exploring his surroundings at full tilt. Until he couldn't. Somewhere discarded in the grass was a sharp piece of metal. Stepping right on it, Brixton managed to lacerate all the muscle tendons, blood vessels and part of the bone on his front right leg. After the initial surgery, the vet told us he practically cut his foot off.

Monday was a hard day for all of us. Brixton lost so much blood in the 30 minutes it took to get to the vet's office he came close to dying. He underwent general anesthesia and the procedure to attempt and reconnect the tendons lasted 3 hours. This was the worst leg laceration the vet had seen in close to 25 years of practice. There are no guarantees Brixton will recover 100% and at only 4 years old, we're devastated that he may never return to full mobility. The road to recovery will be long, but with the proper rest and therapy, we hope to have Brixton running again.

As we're still adjusting and settling into our lives in England, Monday's events came as a whopping blow to our savings with more treatments and medical expenses to come. The initial surgery cost just over £1300 with additional procedures and rehab still needed. I have recently joined a local group that organizes rubbish clean-ups of neighborhoods in Cheltenham. I joined them Saturday, February 8 for one clean up nearby and am working to organize a clean up of the park where Brixton was injured.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover the initial surgery, additional procedures and help with rehab expenses. Any remaining funds will go to local groups to help clean up rubbish in Cheltenham's parks and neighborhoods.

We consider Brixton to be our first child since the day we adopted him back in 2016. Since then, he's grown with us and is now the furry brother to our 1-year-old daughter. He is a major part of our family and life wouldn't be the same without him. He's our wild child, untamed and free - just the way we want him to be. He reminds us to be curious, love nature and appreciate the little things. He gets us out to walk and shows us a different route each day. We're devastated that someone's carelessness to not dispose of their trash properly could take away what an innocent animal loves most. We're determined to give Brixton the treatment he needs and get him running again. Will you help us?
