Hi, my name is Nadia, and I’m raising funds to help deliver Scotlands 1st Sensory & Illusion Activity Centre (What the sense) to Crieff in Perth and Kinross. As the project develops, it’s clear that this carefully integrated model — combining immersive illusion rooms, sensory regulation spaces, VR/arcade, café and sensory garden — is not currently offered anywhere in this format in the UK.
This project has grown from lived experience, community need, and ongoing discussions with local families, landowners, and Perth & Kinross Council. Crieff currently lacks an inclusive, accessible space where children, young people, adults and families — particularly those with additional support needs — can explore, regulate, and enjoy experiences together in a calm, welcoming environment.
What the Sense will be a museum-style sensory and illusion centre designed for all ages and abilities. It will include immersive 2 sensory rooms, 6-7 illusion rooms, VR/ arcade room, interactive light and visual installations, and a secure, attached sensory garden accessed directly from inside the building. We also plan to host weekly SEN classes as well as arts and crafts, bingo nights and host a variety of different entertainment events. The aim is to create a space that is engaging without being overwhelming — somewhere families feel safe, understood, and included.
This fundraiser is not to build the entire centre.
The funds raised will be used for essential early-stage costs that allow the project to move forward immediately once land or premises are secured. This includes:
Land and property legal advice
• Heads of Terms / option agreement drafting
• Title checks, searches and boundary verification
• Site and land surveys (topographical and ground investigations)
• Drainage, utilities and infrastructure searches
• Flood risk, ecology or tree assessments (if required)
• Planning pre-application fees and professional advice
• Architectural feasibility and layout drawings
• Access and inclusive design statements
• Initial fire safety strategy and compliance advice
• Full planning application fees and required documentation
• Planning revisions following council feedback
• Building warrant / building regulations application fees
• Technical drawings for building control approval
• Quantity surveying and cost planning
• Contractor tender preparation and build-readiness assessments
Securing this funding helps demonstrate strong community backing and enables the council to treat this as a live, deliverable project, helping to prioritise land options and progress decisions at pace.
The project already has strong local support from families, residents, and businesses across Crieff. Every donation — no matter the size — helps move this forward and strengthens the case for this to be treated as a top-priority community project.
Image shown is a concept visual to illustrate scale, accessibility and layout. Final design will be developed in collaboration with planners, funders and the community.
Thank you for supporting a project focused on inclusion, imagination, and long-term benefit for Crieff and the wider community.
