<div>I&rsquo;m a writer and performer and this August I&rsquo;m taking my weird, ecstatic, funny solo show, <a href="https://www.ceciliacorrigan.com/the-gay-divorce" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Gay Divorce</a> , to the Edinburgh Fringe, the biggest arts festival in the world (the &ldquo;Olympics of the arts&rdquo;??)!

<div>The Gay Divorce is a project that swept into my life like a glittery, weepy hurricane just over a year ago, and has taken me on a wild ride ever since. I truly can&rsquo;t believe we are doing this! What!
</div>

<div>If you&rsquo;re not familiar, the Gay D is my first ever solo comedy show, and I am in love with it! After a development workshop at <a href="https://www.tornpage.org/events/2025/4/24/the-gay-divorcee" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Torn Page</a> , and a sold-out run at <a href="https://www.bricktheater.com/event/the-gay-divorce/2025-07-16/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Brick Aux</a> in Brooklyn, we brought the show to the Philly Fringe for sold-out nights at <a href="https://www.voxpopuligallery.org/events/the-gay-divorce" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vox Populi</a> . Since its inception a year ago bursting forth like Venus from a mermaid shell, the show has opened up so many incredible opportunities already, and given us the momentum to make it to Edinburgh. And it&rsquo;s really happening &mdash; <a href="https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/the-gay-divorce" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">check it out</a> , we&rsquo;re official , baby!

<div>The past year has shown me not only that there&rsquo;s no time like the present but that this show is a rocketship that will find its audience if I just hold on tight! I truly believe in the project, and I&rsquo;m so excited to share it on this huge stage this summer. It will be an amazing opportunity to bring the show to an international audience and greater industry recognition, and it&rsquo;s also a HUGE logistical and financial commitment &ndash; which is why I&rsquo;m asking for your help on this, my first-ever crowd funding venture! <div><strong>WHAT IS THE GAY DIVORCE?</strong>
</div>
<div>A hilariously twisted anti-romcom comedy about a brokenhearted trophy wife: as the prospect of her dream gay wedding falls apart, she does, too, and the show follows her psyche&rsquo;s explosion through a lineup of chaotic femme characters: an immortal witch, a codependent Jesus, a post-apocalyptic Real Housewife, even a very grumpy worm!

<div>It&rsquo;s surreal, it&rsquo;s silly, even ecstatically cringe, but it&rsquo;s also got an emotional punch. People have been coming to it as a comedy and then been like, &ldquo;Oh wait, why did that make me feel pathos too? Damn I love this, I hope people give to the GoFundMe so others can have this experience!&rdquo; I mean, that&rsquo;s what we think people are thinking, but you don&rsquo;t have to take our word for it. <div><strong>WHO IS WE?</strong>
</div>
<div>I&rsquo;ve been developing the show for the last year with our creative producer Cliff and director Allison Brooks, both of whom will be at Edinburgh. Here&rsquo;s a little bit more about us:
</div>

</div>
<div>Cecilia Corrigan is a weird bimbo clown flower, with roots in the world of drag, poetry and performance art. Her projects written for the stage include a queer adaptation of The Misanthrope, commissioned by Bedlam, Motherland, a play created while Artist In Residence at Issue Project Room, and Jingle All the Gay, an annual holiday show with drag stars Kitten N&rsquo; Lou. Her screenplays have been developed at production companies like Annapurna and Killer Films. She&rsquo;s collaborated in performance with artists including Eric Andr&eacute; and Steve Buscemi. The New York Times has described her performances as &ldquo;exhilarating.&rdquo; Her first poetry collection, Titanic, won the Madeleine Plonsker Prize.

<div>Allison Brooks is a performer, director, and dancer. Having written, directed, and starred in two of her own films (Looking for Richard , Sisters of Evergreen), you could say she&rsquo;s a woman who gets shit done. Known for her physical comedy and love of improv, she brings bold energy and instinctive humor to everything she creates.

<div>Cliff Mak is a writer and producer. They have collaborated with Cecilia on a number of performances, shows, and videos. They are also an English professor at Queens College, CUNY.

<div>Your donations will help us cover a FULL MONTH OF SHOWS&mdash; I&rsquo;ll be performing the show almost every day for the entire festival! I'm gonna need a lot of Throat Coat tea! It&rsquo;s a major undertaking, and a major investment, but it&rsquo;s also an invaluable opportunity to hone our craft and broaden our exposure.
