Bringing the 42nd Athens to Atlanta to the Finish Line

Donation protected
The Athens to Atlanta Road Skate is an entirely volunteer-run event driven purely by our love for skating, and the people who come every year to take part in this fun, unique, and challenging adventure across Georgia.

After 41 great years, we have reached a difficult crossroads. As a result of consistently low registration over the past several years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the rising costs of event production, we are faced with an unexpected budget concern.

We are tremendously grateful for the unwavering support of our die-hard regulars, sponsors, anonymous donors, volunteers, and participants - your contributions and participation have kept us just afloat for the past ten years.

We feel extremely hopeful that we can bring you the 42nd Annual A2A on October 20th of this year, but in order to do so, we need your help!
The unique operational and logistical demands of this event leaves us with greater than $20,000 of essential expenses to produce this year's event, with insurance and police coverage comprising more than half of those expenses. That said, we will be able to hold the 2024 event if this fundraiser reaches $14,000 by the August 10th deadline!

What are we fundraising for?
The GIRSA board has created this fundraiser to help us cover the bare minimum event operations cost (including event insurance, police assistance across 5 counties, registration location, water, etc.).

We mean it when we say that even a $2 or $5 donation will help! And of course, registering for the 2024 event helps enormously as well.

OUR DEADLINE: August 10, 2024

What happens if this fundraiser has not reached the goal by August 10th?
On August 10th, the GIRSA board will meet to take a broad look at the event status.

Even if the fundraiser has not reached its goal, we may be still able to produce the event with funds from event sponsorship and registration numbers exceeding our projections. But again, A2A is at a crossroads, and every dollar helps.

In the event that we are forced to cancel this year’s event, all donations (GoFundMe, PayPal, or other), sponsorships, and registration fees already paid would be refunded in full.

What does this mean for the future?
Given our circumstances, 2025 and beyond remain uncertain. If A2A has been on your bucket list as a first-time skater, or a return skater, 2024 is your year to register. There is still time to prepare.

The GIRSA board is discussing creative ways that we could possibly bring about a less frequent event, but for now, we are focused on 2024 in hopes that this year’s event will go forward. From my (Anna Zuver, Event Director’s) perspective, I’m thrilled to have grown up with and seen 30 A2As, and it is challenging to see what quite possibly is the end of a long chapter.

It is our hope that we can bring you, at the least, one last rant, one last family reunion, and one last epic adventure on the roads of Georgia.
