Help Give Strength For Team Nathan

Life is full of surprises….you never know what you’re going to get.   Our friend Thaty Turecek and her oldest boy Nathan thought they were going in for a routine procedure when they scheduled Nathan’s surgery.

It was supposed to be a routine procedure.  Nathan was born with Takayasu Syndrome which is a rare type of vasculitis, a group of disorders that cause blood vessel inflammation. In Takayasu's arteritis, the inflammation damages the aorta — the large artery that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body.  At age seven Nathan spent countless hours in the hospital until they discovered he had the syndrome.  A stent was placed into his Aorta to prolong his life. It was a month-long experience that created an amazing bond between Mother and Son.  Over the last few months, Nathan was complaining of numbness in his legs.  Thaty took him in for a checkup and it was determined that his Aorta was narrowing again and blocking blood flow to his limbs.  Last Friday before Labor Day weekend Thaty and Charles (Nathan’s dad) took Nathan to Children’s Hospital for surgery to replace the old stent.  As an all-star water polo player and lifeguard, Nathan was all in, knowing he’d be back with his high school teammates in no time.

Things didn’t go as planned. Unfortunately, Nathan suffered a blood clot in his leg which led to Compartment Syndrome.  Doctors were able to save his leg by cutting all the fibers that hold the calf muscle together.  The pain is excruciating which required Nathan to be fully sedated and on a ventilator for days.  He’s off the ventilator and breathing on his own now but he’s got a long road ahead of rebab and orthoscopic surgery.   His leg is in bad shape and many months of rehab are required.

An Amazing Single Mother Of Three needs your help.  For those of you who know Thaty you already know what an amazing spirit, friend, and mother she is.   Thaty and some days even Charles (Nathan’s dad) Have been sleeping in the guest area every night since Nathan’s surgery and won’t leave his side.  Before Nathan’s surgery, she worked twelve hour days, (fifty hour work weeks) as a nurse to support her three amazing boys, Lucas, Mattie, and Nathan.  As a single mom faced with the challenges of raising three teenage boys (thaty and Charles are in a divorce court battle not settled yet) you can imagine the work she puts in on a daily basis.

Your impact should you decide to help her.  Thaty needs your help so she can stay home with Nathan during his recovering.  She can’t work as many hours while nursing Nathan back to 100%.   Nathan will be in the hospital thru September and will start an eight-month rehab in October.   Thaty is incurring new expenses daily and needs your help covering some costs and missed work hours.  Thankfully her full-time work provided insurance!

Blessings,

Friends of Thaty
