Help bring Nailed to Burning Man 2025!

Nailed will be an examination of the choice presented to all, which is to choose a life of safety and monotony, lacking in danger or chaos, but always in a steady state? Or rather to choose a life of extremes, of unpredictability, beautiful and wild and often wrought with difficulty or uncertainty, be it so that your demise may come much much sooner?
All will be invited to contemplate their own mortality and where they stand on this spectrum, either from outside or lying within the very piece itself.
While we are using cigarettes as the main symbol for this, the piece is about the ways in which all substance use and risk taking behavior both poses risks to us, but also enhances our experiences. It will take the shape of an adult size coffin made out of resin cast panels filled with cigarette butts. The translucent nature of the panels will allow participants to look at the world through the lens of the choices they make and the way those choices impact their experience of reality.
Nailed is being built by a crew of four queer artists in Reno, NV at co-lead artist Ray Frost's home. The piece is entirely self-funded and will cost an estimated $6,000 for materials and transportation. Nailed has been selected to be shown in the Post Playa art exhibit at the Reno Tahoe International Art Show from September 11-14 and we hope to find a place to permanently install it so that it can reach a broader audience.
Both of the lead artists for Nailed have struggled with sobriety, mental illness, and self-acceptance and this sculpture is a way for them to embrace themselves for who they are and a reminder to live authentically, since our time here is too short and precious to waste. A coffin shaped small offering box will be installed next to the sculpture where participants can leave messages of what they're letting go of that will be burned with Mona Die Die Die on Friday night.
We're also hand making some fundraising swag , which is available on Ray's website, if you're looking for a way to support the project and get a cool piece of art!
We're looking for donations of cigarette butts to help us fill up the panels. If you're in the Reno area and want to drop some off, please email us at: mybodymyhomecoyote at gmail dot com
