Help Bring Kailey Home/Adoption

We are nearing the end of the long road of international adoption. We began this process over a year ago and we are finally within two months of meeting our new daughter. As a friend of ours who has adopted before put it, “the end of adoption is end loaded" meaning you need a lot of money at the end for travel; agency, government, and orphanage “donation” fees, and other fees while in China. The adoption process has been long and expensive and to bring Kailey home will cost around $35,000. Through personal loans and generous donations, we have already paid some of the cost, but we are still short about $15,000 to bring our daughter home.

 

We are Shawn and Malissa O'Shell. Our son, Kellan, has been a blessing to our lives after we once thought we would never be able to have children. In order to have Kellan we went through the process of IVF. After one failed IVF attempt, we got pregnant with Kellan on the second frozen cycle. For years after, we kept waiting to see if we would be able to add another child to our family. We suffered a miscarriage in 2012 and had since come to realize that it was not God's plan for us to grow our family by conceiving.

 

Shawn and I have talked about the possibility of adopting before but never followed through with anything. However, our lives changed when our hearts became open to the possibility of adopting a child from China. Friends of ours showed us a picture of their newly adopted son and we fell in love with a little girl in the picture who was at the same orphanage as their son. God used her to open our hearts to adoption.

 

We ended up matching with a beautiful little girl in China who is the same age as our son. As soon as we saw her photo, we knew she was meant to be our daughter. We will hopefully be traveling in November to bring her into our family.
