<div> On August 14, 1985, 20-year-old Kristin O’Connell left home expecting to enjoy a summer evening with friends. She never came home. More than 40 years later, her murder remains one of the oldest unsolved homicide cases in New York State. For her family, every birthday, every holiday, and every passing year has been marked by one unanswered question: Who took Kristin’s life?

<div> For decades, there was little hope that science could provide new answers. Today, that has changed. Investigators have identified physical evidence from Kristin’s case that is preserved, packaged, and ready for advanced forensic DNA testing. This evidence has never had the benefit of today’s powerful DNA technology. Modern forensic methods—including techniques that have helped solve hundreds of cold cases across the country—may finally provide the opportunity that Kristin’s family has waited more than four decades to see.

<div> The first step is raising funds to support the initial laboratory testing. This is only the beginning. If the testing identifies promising DNA, additional analysis and investigative work may be needed, and future fundraising may be necessary. But without taking this first step, those answers may remain locked away forever.
