 On July 11, at approximately 4:30 a.m., my brother Francisco Hernandez de la Cruz and I were the victims of a violent attempted robbery at our home in Tarrant, Alabama. During the attack, we were both shot.

 Despite the tireless efforts and exceptional care provided by the outstanding team at UAB Hospital, my brother and best friend Francisco passed away on July 14 as a result of his injuries.

 As for me, I continue fighting to recover. I have undergone two surgeries to reconstruct my leg and still face a long journey of physical and emotional healing.

 Con el corazón lleno de dolor, pero sostenidos por la esperanza, me acerco humildemente para pedir su apoyo durante uno de los momentos más difíciles que nuestra familia ha enfrentado.

 El 11 de julio, aproximadamente a las 4:30 de la madrugada, mi hermano Francisco y yo fuimos víctimas de un violento intento de robo en nuestra casa en Tarrant, Alabama. Durante el ataque, ambos recibimos impactos de bala. A pesar de los incansables esfuerzos y la extraordinaria atención brindada por el excelente equipo del Hospital UAB, mi hermano y mejor amigo, Francisco, falleció el 14 de julio como consecuencia de las heridas que sufrió.

 En cuanto a mí, continúo luchando por mi recuperación. He sido sometido a dos cirugías para reconstruir mi pierna y aún me espera un largo camino de recuperación física y emocional.

 Hoy, con profunda humildad, recurro a nuestra familia, amigos y a todas las personas de buen corazón para pedir su apoyo económico. Nuestro mayor deseo es llevar a Francisco de regreso a Guatemala, donde pueda descansar en paz junto a su amada esposa, sus tres pequeños hijos y el resto de nuestra familia.
