Help Bring ART to the Huneebee GARDEN

Tax deductible
Two nonprofits, Huneebee Project & RiseUP for Arts, are partnering to bring beautiful public art to the Rosette Street Community Garden in New Haven.

The project will be led by collaborating with artists Candyce "Marsh" John and Joey Batts. The mural will bring smiles to the faces of everyone that walks by.

About the Garden:

Rosette Street Garden is our newest garden and apiary in New Haven, and our first city-leased lot. Until this past April, it was vacant, despite plans being made in 2017 to turn it into a butterfly garden (based on neighborhood votes and preferences). The Huneebee Project has since added a shed, picnic table (constructed by Hill House High School's shop class), 3 honey bee hives, and 5 garden beds with pollinator flowers and shrubs, peppers, chard, watermelon, cauliflower, and eggplant. The fruit and vegetables are divided amongst our team and given to neighbors.

This community-based artwork will add the final touch to make this garden feel like a PLACE of peace, love, and unity.

The community will be invited to help paint the mural on Saturday, October 8th.

About Huneebee Project:

Huneebee Project is a New Haven-based non-profit social enterprise with two core missions: to promote environmental conservation in disinvested neighborhoods and equitable job preparedness for local youth. Huneebee offers transferable job-skills training and employment opportunities to youth with past or present child protective or foster care involvement while also installing and maintaining bee hives, supporting pollinator habitat restoration, and hosting free educational workshops on backyard beekeeping and planting for pollinators. In the process of empowering and supporting our youth, Huneebee Project seeks to foster community building, collaboration, and kinship for purposes of environmental conservation and environmental justice.
Since piloting its first therapeutic, job-skills training cohort in 2018, Huneebee has launched an online marketplace of locally sourced honey-based products, pollinator seed packs, planters, and beeswax candles. They presently maintain 30 honey bee hives across seven garden sites in New Haven, Bridgeport, North Haven, and Clinton and employ youth in positions ranging from garden site managers, operations assistants, bee apprentices, and junior bee instructors.
