This past weekend (September 28, 2025), while on his way to work in downtown Chicago, my uncle was stopped by ICE and taken into custody.His wife immediately contacted an immigration attorney who quoted a $12,000 fee to take on his case. She was only able to put down $2,500 all the money she could gather under such short notice. Unfortunately, time was not on our side. Today, on September 29, 2025, we received a heartbreaking call: My uncle has already been deported to Mexico just days before his scheduled court hearing on Friday, October 3.

<div>Agustin never signed a voluntary departure. Instead, ICE agents attempted to force him into signing a voluntary deportation form. On the day he was deported, he told them he had a court date and legal representation, but the agents dismissed his rights, stating he had none. While detained, he also shared that he and others were treated poorly (beaten) and denied basic necessities like water. This is not just a legal failure it is a human one.
