Help Brea Beat Stage 4 Breast Cancer
This past winter Brea found a large lump on her breast. Following a biopsy and subsequent tests, she was diagnosed with an aggressive late stage cancer. A bone scan, MRI and CT scan confirmed that it had already spread from her breast to her auxiliary lymph, ribs and spine. Despite being a young healthy woman, she was given a terrible prognosis (less than 24 months) due to the aggressive nature of this cancer.
Given this, we put together the best team we could find to support Brea. This team includes one of the best oncologists in Calgary, a naturopath who specializes in oncology care, and a world class integrative & functional medical doctor.
Alberta Health Care covered Brea's hormone therapy, bone strengthening medication & initial diagnostic tools. All of the other modalities are paid out of pocket. The approach of her integrative doctor is to understand the body's systems individually and as a whole, so she has undergone a series of metabolic and biological testing to get a baseline on her system. The first round of testing cost over $20,000 and we are expecting additional testing in September as a follow up to some of Brea's recent changes (positive changes!!! - stayed tuned for the update). Currently, her monthly supplements & herbs cost approximately $2500 a month. Additional expenses include IV infusions, hyperthermia treatments, infrared sauna and other therapeutics modalities such as CBD, THC, acupuncture & chiropractic care.
Knowing very well that the only expenses covered by Alberta Health Care are the oncological support, we immediately gathered our resources towards her health. However, that was 6 months ago and we are now having difficulties managing these expenses.
