Bonita Mersiades was sued for defamation in July 2020 by both the President of Football Qld Limited (FQ) and the CEO of FQ for an article she wrote in January 2020.
Bonita defended the action against herself and her company, Fair Play Publishing.
As part of the litigation process the parties involved in the dispute undertook a mediation process.
The legal system encourages parties to enter into the mediation process with the objective of the parties reaching a compromise to avoid both the significant stress that flows from litigation and the very significant cost of conducting a trial and any potential appeals.
In reaching agreement the parties must usually make compromises to reach a settlement of the litigation.
A settlement has now been reached to see an end to the litigation (which she had also offered last year).
Even though this settlement will avoid future legal costs, it still sees Bonita with significant personal legal costs of her own to meet up until the time of settlement, which exceed what was raised in the initial stages of this GoFundMe campaign.
Many of you will be aware of the huge commitment that Bonita has made to the advancement of the beautiful game over many years in both Australia and overseas. She has volunteered at virtually all levels of the games in four cities, and has also worked in senior positions in the game.
On behalf of her many friends in football in Queensland, I ask for your assistance to help her fund her costs to date and to allow her to go forward with her involvement in the advancement of Football.
