Help Bojang Tamba School fund Staffing Cost

Donation protected

BOJANG TAMBA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE (BTSE).

MY PROPOSAL

I am seeking to raise £4000 to support the staffing costs at the Bojang Tamba School of Excellence (BTSE).
The amount raised will allow the school to pay for the teaching costs of their staff for the year and allow them to provide training to develop their teachers skills.

Ideally I would like to raise enough funds to accommodate staff costs for a five year period to create continuity and ensure that the children can go through their learning experience with the same teachers.

With your help:
* The children will benefit from building a relationship with their teachers and families.

* The Teachers, who are all Gambian, can benefit from permanent employment and the opportunity to develop their teaching practice.

With your help Inspirational Enterprises (fundraisers for the school) can focus on further develop the schools expansion with the introduction of computers and ICT systems that will allow the children to have an early insight into modern day technology.

A bit about Inspirational Enterprises (IE)…

They have been successful in the building and maintaining of BTSE, a school for children under 8s, since 2012.

The concept and development process for this project was a brainchild of Patrick Augustus, with innovative support both financially and strategically by Lewisham Black fathers group and other support groups, individuals and patrons.

To date they have managed to train and support a School Coordinator and 3 Teachers, built three nursery classrooms on their 80 x 60 compound, a Tuck Shop, a playground equipped with swings and a slide and a school vegetable patch.

They have recently appointed a much-needed Head Teacher to oversee the academic progress in the school and upkeep the delivery of quality education. In order to make sure they can sustain the role of Head Teacher in addition to their three Teachers they need your help to cover the costs.

Why am I interested in BTSE?

As a young boy, growing up I never had access to education or equal opportunity. On a visit to the Gambia, I saw the parallels between my early years and that of the poor children who too did not have access also to education and equal opportunities. On many occasions, I witnessed young children being forced to beg on the streets, which in turn allowed for the odd tourist to take advantage of them. At that point, I decided that I wanted to be part of the solution and not a part the problem. I sponsored a child named Binta Seka in 2012. She attended BTSE, and was able to thrive there. Now she is doing well for herself and makes time to volunteer her time and efforts to the school. In the last few years, I have committed myself to help the survival of the school as I have seen first hand all the good that it does. I believe when you invest in a childs education, you invest in the nation. “Children learn that with education what they can conceive, they can achieve”.

In Closing

I am looking for the financial support of you my global family, well-wishers and all those who value the work to bring education and early childhood development into Africa, to support and ensure that I reach the target of £4000.
Please donate as much as you can – but the little equals the much if it is given with a sincere heart.

Much Love

Below I have cut and pasted some recent notable developments to the school and their effects on the children and local community, from IE’s website.

EXTRA CLASSROOMS
* Built two extra classrooms to add to the existing rooms that were built, allowing us to accommodate up to sixty children.
* This has meant that over thirty percent of the children attending the school do not have to travel outside of their district to gain an education.

DEVELOPMENT OF A PLAYGROUND.
* We fundraised to build a playground for the children. The playground has a space for games, swings and a slide to support the young people’s social skills, group building and encourage exercise.
* The children look forward to their playtimes and the ability to let off steam. We have found that in general the children are of good health.

HEALTH AND EDUCATION
* We identified several key actors in the field of health and education. This has allowed us to provide supported workshops as a part of the curriculum which has included, Arts and Crafts, and Health and hygiene promotion. Teaching children about hygiene and brushing their teeth correctly.
* The children have gained extra social skills and have gained knowledge in the field of personal hygiene and thus can share this information with siblings and family supporting the Each one Teach one Motto.
