He is the most wonderful, friendly, loving little boy with an infectious smile and love for life. <div>At the age of two, Billy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Triplegia, a painful condition that affects Billy’s ability to stand and walk independently. <div> Our Billy was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP) which mainly affects his legs and right arm, causing pain and tightness due to the spasticity. He can sing, count and do so much except walk by himself. Nevertheless, he is very determined, works hard everyday to get stronger, more mobile and gain independence. Each day he has to complete physiotherapy and occupational therapy. <iframe media_type="0" media_id="ZOR32ILfsOQ" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZOR32ILfsOQ/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe> We’ve been researching all possible options for our little boy and found out about SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) surgery practices at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in the United States under world-renowned surgeon Dr. T.S. Park’s supervision. After filing necessary documents and lodging request application to the Dr. Park’s team, we have received wonderful news that Billy has been qualified and accepted to undergo the life changing surgery. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51588824_1601587807274437_r.jpeg" alt="51588824_1601587807274437_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> Dr. Park and his team informed us that Billy would greatly benefit from the SDR surgery. After the procedure, we can expect him to walk independently and flat on his feet which means spasticity will be permanently reduced, his sitting and standing posture will improve, his transitions between postures will be easier and faster, and his balance and level of comfort will improve. Dr. Park believes that after successful completion of this surgery and post-op therapy and hard work will allow Billy to live a fuller life free of pain. Billy is an ideal candidate to maximize the benefit of the surgery which is statistically optimal for 2-4 year-olds before bone deformation, bad habits and reflexes settle in. This surgery is a once in a lifetime operation with a 100% success rate for non-returning spasticity. In order to prepare for the procedure and undergo the intense physiotherapy required following the surgery, Billy will need to spend up to six weeks in St. Louis, MO. Mongolia does not have SDR surgery practices and lacks information regarding the opportunities that it may present. SDR surgery is not available in Mongolia and is not funded by the insurance.
