My brother, Bill Barber, was diagnosed with Leukemia back in January 2024. Bill's daughters (Chandity, Haley and Morgan) and my siblings (Tina and Scott) have started this GoFundMe to help our brother and sister-n-law with their medical expenses and monthly expenses while Bill is out of work for about 6 months once he has his bone marrow transplant, which is scheduled for January 21, 2025.

The only cure for Bill's type of Leukemia is to have a bone marrow transplant (stem cell transplant), which is a complex procedure where blood is removed from the donor (luckily, our younger brother is a match for this transplant) through an IV line, and the stem cells are separated from the white blood cells using a machine. The donor's stem cells are injected into dad through a Central Venous Catheter (CVC). The stem cells travel to the bone marrow, where they mature and divide to produce new blood cells for Bill. Bill will be hospitalized for a minimum of 30 days to allow the transplant to take effect. After surgery, Bill has to spend 3 months in specialty housing in STL in order to be close to the hospital. His wife, Lori, will have to travel back and forth from Lebanon, MO to be with him.

In preparation for this transplant, Bill has had numerous bone marrow biopsies and is currently on a chemo treatment plan, which has resulted in thousands of dollars already owed in medical bills. Bill has been told by his doctors that he will be out of work for at least 6 months starting on 01/07/25. Bill is a union laborer and is the sole provider for him and Lori. Bill has never been the type of person to ask for anybody's help for himself, but he is the first person to offer any type of help to others in need, which is why we as a family have decided to reach out to extended family and friends for assistance for Bill and Lori.

Any contribution, big or small, will go towards Bill's medical bills and travel expenses.
