On September 9th I will be married to Bill Jernée for 50 very happy years. He is an incredibly loving husband and father to our 4 beautiful daughters. And the best Pop-Pop to our 9 adoring grandchildren.
About 5 years ago he was diagnosed with emphysema. Recently he had his annual pulmonary function test (pft). The results were devastating. His lungs are functioning at only 30%. He is on oxygen full time and multiple medications. Yet, with all that, most days he has difficulty walking across the room.
Until recently there was little hope for him. However we have found hope at the Lung Institute by Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
They have an innovative new procedure with stem cell therapy using the patient's own stem cells. The stem cells, when reintroduced to his lungs, will self renew and replicate on their own. Giving new life to his lungs.
As with most good things, there is a down side. This procedure is not covered my health insurance. Each treatment is a 3 day series and will cost $7,500. Bill will need at least 2 treatments. Since we live 5 hours from the Lung Institute each session will be a 4 night stay.
