As some of you may know, I am taking a gap year before studying at Amsterdam University College to volunteer and learn about environmental and ecological conservation.
I've just finished a two-month program with the European Solidarity Corps, planting trees and restoring the native forest in Portugal.
I am now about to start another program volunteering with ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece.
It has been protecting the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles and their habitats in Greece for over 35 years.
ARCHELON’s conservation efforts rely heavily on voluntary participation and contributions to the projects.
Loggerhead turtles are incredibly important keystone species in the environment and heavily influence other species around them. Besides their ecological importance, they play an important cultural role for many coastal communities around the world and it has been proved time and time again are worth more alive than dead. They inspire children's imagination and scientific curiosity.
I will be working with their Rescue Network in Athens; learning about monitoring and research, developing and implementing management plans, habitat restoration, raising public awareness and rehabilitating sick and injured turtles.
I am asking for your help as I am unable to fully fund my travel, volunteering, and living expenses on my own. The money you donate will go directly towards these expenses.
I have worked for my entire high school career to fund my gap year, but I still need your help!
I am beginning the program at the end of the month and would be so grateful for any amount of help you guys could permit.
