Hello everyone,

My name is Sabrina Speckman and this fundraiser is for my nonprofit and charity Positive Potential. During 2021 I visited Maicao Colombia and was introduced to the immense amount of Venezuelan refugees that fled their country to seek medical help. 

I worked specifically with a community that held around 60 families and almost 300 kids. The houses they lived in were made purely out of sticks, plastic sheets, and cardboard. The majority of time they slept on the floor, and if they were lucky, a hammock. They had to self clean their water and store it in containers to use throughout the week. The children many times didn’t have any shoes and also very scrapping clothing. The education process would stop after reaching the age of 10 leading to the majority of young adults not knowing how to correctly read or write. The majority of the kids were unvaccinated and needed a lot of medical help as did the adults. I’m so incredibly grateful for those who supported me and donated back in 2021 to support this project. Together we were able to pay for the tumor surgery of a 6 year old girl, buy 300 pairs of shoes, 80 mattresses, over 100 backpacks with school material, clothes, food, toys, and more. 
 As I go back this summer, It is my goal to raise even more donations in the hopes of providing better housing, open a school, and also a clinic.

Mi nombre es Sabrina Speckman y esta recaudación de fondos es para mi organización Positive Potential. Durante 2021 visité Maicao Colombia y conocí la inmensa cantidad de refugiados Venezolanos que huyeron de su país para buscar ayuda médica.

Trabajé específicamente con una comunidad que tenía 60 familias y casi 300 niños. Las casas en las que vivían estaban hechas de palos, láminas de plástico y cartón. Las personas dormían en el suelo y, con suerte, en una hamaca. Tenían que limpiar el agua y almacenarla en botellas para usarla durante la semana. Los niños muchas veces no tenían zapatos y además ropa muy desgastada. El proceso educativo se terminará a la edad de 10 años, resultando en muchos adultos no poder leer o escribir. La mayoría de los niños no estaban vacunados y necesitaban mucha ayuda médica al igual que los adultos.
 Estoy increíblemente agradecida para los que me apoyaron y donaron en 2021 para soportar este proyecto. Juntos pudimos pagar para la cirugía de una niña de 6 años que tenía un tumor en su espalda, comprar 300 pares de zapatos, 80 colchones, más de 100 mochilas con materiales escolares, ropa, comida, juguetes y más.
  Al regresar este verano, mi objetivo es poder colectar aún más donaciones con la esperanza de brindar mejores viviendas, abrir una escuela y también una clínica. CUALQUIER donación es muy apreciada y ayudará a mejorar la vida de estas personas increíbles ¡¡Gracias!!
