Help Beth Greenapple Battle Cancer

Donation protected
Beth Greenapple has been a shining light in our community here in southeast Michigan for twenty-five years as an educator, musician, friend, and mother to her son, Nadav. Born and raised in Long Island, she was a teacher in the New York Public Schools and various Jewish communities across New York State before moving to Michigan. Her kindness, courage, and empathy have made her a beloved presence wherever she goes, and many people across the Jewish and wider communities in Metro Detroit and New York remember "Ms. Greenapple" fondly as their Hebrew school, elementary school, or music teacher.

Since 2006, Beth has struggled against a type of recurring brain cancer known as oligodendroglioma. She has had four rounds of chemotherapy, one round of radiation, and three surgeries to remove malignant tumors, the most recent of these in July 2018. This surgery had significant effects on the speech center of her brain. As of October 2019 the tumor has returned in force. Just before Thanksgiving, Beth suffered a massive seizure. She was left extremely weak on her right side, is unable to walk or use her right arm without assistance, suffers from lasting cognitive disabilities, and has great difficulty speaking or forming sentences. Due to insurance issues, she was unable to remain in an inpatient rehabilitation facility and is now in need of 24/7 in-home care and supervision, in addition to physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She is also undergoing intense treatment using a tumor-starving drug called Avastin.

As her loved ones, we are raising money in order to be able to provide Beth with the treatment and quality of life she deserves over the coming months. So far we have been providing Beth with as much care as we can and have hired a family friend to help us, but we can no longer bear this burden ourselves. These funds will be used to help pay for hospital expenses, medications, and the assistance of caregivers.

We ask humbly that you donate here in order to help us help Beth. We can no longer do this alone.

Thank you.
