Benni, my niece, and her beloved cat, Stinky, experienced a life-changing tragedy when a two-alarm fire swept through their row home in Charles Village, Baltimore. The fire started just a few doors down and quickly spread across the roofs, reaching their third-floor row home. With only moments to spare, Benni escaped in her pajamas, carrying Stinky to safety. The fire was eventually contained, but the damage was overwhelming. Most of Benni's belongings were ruined by smoke and water, and the fire left seven homes uninhabitable. Tragically, one person lost their life, and Benni's roommate lost her cat in the chaos.

 Benni had just paid rent for June, but now she finds herself homeless, struggling with trauma and shock from the ordeal. She has no funds for new housing or to replace the essential items she lost. The emotional toll has been immense, and she is facing an uncertain future as she tries to recover from this devastating event.
