Help Beetle Beat FIP

Donation protected
Beetle is a one-year-old cat, rescued from a serial cat hoarder (https://bit.ly/36r8mcf). He was surrendered prior to the raid described in the link, but those are the circumstances where he spent most of his life so far. When we adopted him in August, he spent the first few weeks hiding under furniture and hissing at anyone who came close. Through patience and gentleness, he slowly, but surely, started coming out of his shell and learning to trust.

By October, he was a cat transformed. Where he once scratched, bit, and hid from humans, he readily sought out companionship and pets. He became an avid playmate for our other cats and a regular member of the couch cat-pile. He finally had a safe and loving home, and he knew it.

Unfortunately, this did not last. We started to notice weight loss and lethargy, among other symptoms and we brought him to the vet right away. On November 5th, his labs came back indicating that he has dry FIP, which has settled in his kidneys and is causing renal dysfunction. FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) is a mutated form of a feline coronavirus (not related to covid-19) that has historically been a death sentence to any cat that contracts it.

However, we have the opportunity to get Beetle an experimental treatment that has extremely high success rates so far. It will mean a twelve-week course of treatment, followed by twelve weeks of observation, with blood tests being done every four weeks throughout. He will also need to eat a special kidney diet during this time and receive fluids periodically.

The full treatment course of the experimental drug will cost about $2,500. The lab work will be an additional $1,000. And the prescription kidney food and fluids will be an additional $500. We are trying to cover as much as we can, and the rescue we adopted Beetle from has provided some of the initial materials. But we are not in a financial position to pay for everything, so we are seeking help. We are grateful for anything you can contribute whether that is financially or by sharing our story with your friends.

Thank you so much for helping Beetle live the long, happy, healthy life he deserves.

Love,

Liz and Jen
