Help Battalion Chief Carney

Donation protected
Newly promoted Battalion Chief Josh Carney is battling an aggressive, stage 4, Melanoma Cancer. Chief Carney has recently completed radiation treatments and is now recovering from this life-saving treatment. In order to increase his comfort and relaxation during this challenging time, a few items are essential. The road to recovery is not an easy one, but love and support of family, friends, and colleagues will make a great difference.

After serving in the United States Air Force as an Airport Firefighter at Andrews Airforce Base just outside Washington D.C., Chief Carney came to Midway Fire Rescue fifteen years ago. Chief Carney immediately made an impact on various aspects of the fire department and rapidly rose the ranks from firefighter to lieutenant. Josh Carney earned his way to captain on C-Shift and then accepted a position on the B-Shift when it became available. Captain Carney spent three years on B-Shift until a battalion chief position was available. Given his drive for self-improvement, Captain Carney applied for this position. Despite close testing, the administration selected Captain Carney to become Battalion Chief Carney on A-shift. His expertise and dedication were no doubt factors in his promotion. In addition to the natural leadership responsibilities of his position, Chief Carney has been an integral part of various committees within Midway Fire Rescue. These committees include the Apparatus Committee, Hiring Committee and other administrative duties within MFR.

Chief Carney is also a dedicated husband and father. He is married to his beloved wife, Lillian Carney, and they have one daughter together, Shayla Carney. Chief Carney and his wife are very proud of their brilliant daughter who was recently accepted to the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.

Chief Carney is a staple at Midway Fire Rescue. The personnel that work with him are in sync with the message of hard-work, dedication, and self-betterment that the chief projects daily. He wants everyone to grow and learn and as a result, build the best fire department on the grand strand.

This GoFundMe will provide funds to support the recovery and much needed respite of Chief Carney. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated by the Fire Department, Josh, and his family. Every dollar is important, and the funds raised will go directly to Chief Carney.

We fight this together!
