Help Bark at the Moon with medical cases!

Bark at the Moon Animal Rescue has been working tirelessly all summer to help support dogs in need.

We are a rescue that does not believe in borders or limiting who we extend our support to.

We are passionate about giving dogs the second chance that they deserve.

The month of September has come with many many sudden and unexpected setbacks financially.

Over the Labour Day weekend, we took in 2 11-week-old puppies from an unethical sled ring in Quebec. To our surprise, they both ended up having parvovirus. Parvo is a highly contagious viral disease of dogs that commonly causes acute gastrointestinal illness in puppies. Treatment is approximately $6,000 per pup, and without the necessary treatment can be fatal. Both our kiddos survived, but not without a hefty emergency vet bill.

Peaches, one of our sweet gals that came into our care earlier in the summer, received treatment for Distichia.

A distichia (plural distichiae) is an extra eyelash that arises from the margin of the eyelid through the duct or opening of the meibomian gland or adjacent to it, although they may arise at other locations along the eyelid margins. The condition in which these abnormal eyelashes are found is called distichiasis. Her treatment was $3700.

Tux, a beautiful kitty cat that we took in as a local owner surrender here in hamilton, woke up sick On September 22nd. His gums were pale, showed zero interest in food, was very lethargic and his legs were very weak.

He got him into our regular clinic as soon as possible, to quickly discover he needed to be referred to an emergency hospital ASAP. He’s currently at OVC and they're running diagnostics to figure out exactly what his needs are.

We suspect Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia but we will know more with further testing.

We have been quoted $5,000-7,000 for testing, treatment and blood transfusion.

On top of all of this, we still have our regular monthly vetting appointments. Bark at the Moon sets all their adoptive families up for success, and a part of this is making sure they receive a full examination prior to adoption. Part of this includes sterilization and vaccines (if not already done before arriving to us), fecal exam, 4Dx exam, microchipping, monthly prevention etc. Between both our clinics, that invoice is sitting at $2,000.

As a non-profit, we do not receive any financial support from the government.

Adoption fees help, but more often than not with transportation, vetting, training & supplies factored in - we rarely break even. We are grateful for the constant support we receive from the general public who helps us constantly make sure that we are able to provide the very best care for the sweet dogs and cats we work around the clock to save.
