Hey, This is Ahmed Bakr, an Egyptian student who got admitted into Minerva University, one of the most selective universities in the US. with a 1.2% acceptance rate, I am very close to realizing my dream of studying abroad, but I’m facing financial hardship to make this dream come to life!
I have been very fortunate to be awarded a ≈92% scholarship, which is $37,700 out of the total cost of $40,600. This leaves a gap of $2,900, which doesn’t include flights, insurance costs, or visa fees.
Unfortunately, economic barriers don’t allow me to fulfill this dream. The sum above is more than my family’s annual income. Egypt’s current financial crisis makes it even harder since the dollar exchange rate has rocketed, and the government limits people to convert money into dollars!
To put things into perspective, $1 USD is nearly 40 Egyptian pounds. $3,500 is 135,000 Egyptian pounds, which is 25,000 pounds more than the annual Egyptian income of about 110,000 pounds.
WHO AM I?
I’m a multipotentialite who is passionate about learning and making a positive impact in the world. I care deeply about raising awareness of climate change and mental health issues in the Arab world, as these are two of the most pressing challenges facing our generation. For the past six years, I have been involved in various initiatives and projects that aim to educate, empower, and inspire youth to take action for a better future. I have worked with multiple NGOs and startups and founded my own ed-tech startup “Nafsak," a leading mental health platform that helps youth in their self-exploration journeys and provides them with the resources and education to develop self-awareness and emotional intelligence. I have also gained experience as an entrepreneur, project manager, graphic designer, content creator, growth marketing hacker, and event manager.
Now, I am shifting my focus to technology and how it can be used to create socially conscious solutions in our fast-changing world. I believe that technology can be a powerful tool for addressing the complex problems we face, but it also requires a human touch and ethical considerations. That is why I’m looking forward to my journey at “Minerva University” studying computer science with cognitive science, to find the right balance between tech and humanity.
And that’s it, Thanks a lot for your Contributions!
