<div>On September 21st, my niece’s water broke unexpectedly at just 28 weeks pregnant. She was rushed to the emergency room, where doctors were able to stop her labor and then had her flown to Riley Children’s Hospital so she and her baby could be closely monitored until at least 34 weeks.

<div>Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. After only a week and a half at Riley, she had to undergo an emergency C-section when she suddenly went into labor — and the baby was breech.

<div>On October 1st, baby Wesley made his arrival into the world at just 30 weeks, weighing only 2 lbs 14 oz.
</div>

</div>
<div>Wesley is not only premature, but he was also born with a condition called Esophageal-Tracheal Atresia, meaning his esophagus is separated into two parts and not connected to his stomach. Once he grows strong enough, he will need surgery to reconnect it. Until then, he will remain in the NICU for several months.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>To make matters harder, my niece was discharged only three days after giving birth — but had to return to the ER due to a severe reaction to her medication. She and the baby’s dad are now back at Riley, staying in Wesley’s NICU room since there are currently no openings at the Ronald McDonald House. They’re on a waiting list, but for now, they’re sleeping in the hospital just to stay close to their baby.

<div>They are trying to apply for every available resource, but most are on long waiting lists. She currently has no insurance, and the medical bills, travel costs, and everyday expenses are quickly piling up.

<div>Wesley’s dad is doing his best to stay by their side and support them, but it’s extremely hard financially while being away from home and work.
</div>
