Our family has been fostering dogs for Pet Central Helps for the past several years. We have seen a lot of puppies come and go, but none quite like baby Okra.

Okra is a 3-month-old oodle puppy who we've been blessed to foster for several weeks now. She is silly, playful, spunky, and one of the sweetest (and chillest) dogs we've ever met.

Sadly, baby Okra has been diagnosed with a "grade 6" heart murmur, a seriously life-threatening condition. (Vets measure heart murmurs on a 1-6 scale with 6 being the most severe murmur a dog can have.)

Is it treatable? ...We don't know.

Getting answers from a specialist will help determine whether we need to find an adopter who is able to pursue further treatment or whether our family will take Okra into hospice care.

We've spoken to a cardiologist who is willing to see Okra and tell us what options are available for her, but just the initial diagnostic visit will cost > $1,000.

Pet Central Helps is an amazing organization that does wonders for so many animals on a shoestring budget. Though we are only her fosters, we have fallen in love with Okra and are willing to pitch in to cover the costs of this visit.
