Hi everyone, this is my little Shih Tzu puppy Gizmo. He is only 6mths old, an has recently been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes.

When he was 3mths old I started noticing his eyesight wasn't as good as it should be, an I noticed a green glow in his right eye, so I took him to the vet. After an eye examination they noticed something was abnormal, so he was referred to an eye specialist. Once the ophthalmologist examined his right eye she told me he has a deformed iris, it has not formed properly, an the iris is flat instead of round, plus he has a cataract in that eye. We were holding out on hope that his left eye was healthy an normal, but then she gave us the heartbreaking news that he also has cataracts in that eye as well. He has congenital cataracts in both eyes, an she believes that they will increase rapidly. Without cataract surgery he will go blind.

Gizmo has only been in our home for 6mths but the happiness an love he has brought into our lives cannot be expressed in words. He is the most lovable little dog an loves to play. Just to think all that will be taken away from him if he doesn't have the surgery is devastating. He is only a baby, "our baby" an watching his eyesight deteriote is absolutely heartbreaking.

At present we have decided to concentrate on having the cataract surgery on one eye, at least this would give this little guy some vision, an he can get back to being the lovable, playful pup that he should be. The only obstacle in our way is the cost of this surgery. The estimate cost of the surgery is £1,800/£1,900 for each eye (I have included the ophthalmologists report an diagnosis) I would love to be able to pay for this surgery for my pup, but I just can't, an its breaking my heart.. So I'm putting my stubborn pride aside, an asking for your help. Gizmo deserves to live an extremely well loved happy life with us.
