Help Azra Beat Leukemia !

Azra Sena Soyer has recently been diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

It’s been a week. It started with a swollen wrist that we wanted to get checked at instacare Thursday evening. They took an x-ray, saw something on her bone, and recommended an MRI. Friday morning we visited our family doctor, and he approved the MRI. We asked him if it would be possible to rush it because it’s Friday. We want a piece of mind because the doctor mentioned it could be a tumor or overgrowth. We got the MRI results Friday evening, and the oncology team got involved. That’s when we uttered the word possible cancer. They recommended bloodwork.
Saturday morning, they draw blood, we went back home and were having breakfast. We were planning to go to the farmers' market afterward, grab some fruits, and bake a cake in the afternoon. We were just done with breakfast and we had the call from the doctor. “You need to rush her to the emergency room right now. Her blood levels are so low that she will need a transfusion and possible transfer to Primary Children’s”. All I could think of was, she is a little pale. No fever. No signs of an illness. We left in such a hurry that our breakfast is still on our dining table.
When we arrived at the ER in Logan Regional, they ordered another round of labs, started a blood transfusion, and started a conversation with Primary Children’s. Then they uttered the word cancer. They put Azra in the ambulance and brought her to ER here. More labs. It was around 8 pm that the doctor in the ER told us it’s looking like leukemia. “We don’t know what type, but it’s highly likely leukemia”.
It was around 10 pm that we were transferred to the cancer unit, and the doctor gave us the speech.. she has leukemia. We have been here since then. And waited for someone to say that is all an awful prank. No one had said it yet.
Azra had bone marrow, a lumbar puncture, a biopsy on her wrist, more blood transfusion, bags and bags of platelets, an echocardiogram, and a ton of pills. I stopped counting the number of IV fluids she had since we arrived.
Her spinal fluid is clear. The tumor-looking thing on her bone is likely an accumulation of cancer cells. They were very concerned that it could be an infection, but so far pathology and the biopsy results show that it’s not an infection. She went under surgery on Friday ( September, 23th) morning for a central line on her chest and the chemo will officially start.

We probably met with at least 20 different doctors, and so many nurses and technicians since then. It feels like we started a new job and we’re in this accelerated learning program. It is overwhelming, to say the least. If I didn’t get back to your text, call, or email it’s not that I don’t appreciate you, it’s that we barely have time to eat most days. But on days like this, Azra learns how to play the ukulele, cries because she won’t make it to the end-of-year performance at school, but realizes that she has so many people that are thinking of her, praying for her, and ready to support her in any way or shape possible. And then she signs before she goes to sleep;
“I have a dream
I hope it will come true
That you're here with me
And I am here with you
I wish that the earth, sea, and the sky up above
Will send me someone to lava”

The next 2.5 years will be hard. The next 36 days will be even harder. Thank you for your willingness to support us during fighting Leukemia. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, a story that hopefully has many more chapters.
We love you ♥️

Disclosure:
This unexpected challenge will be a substantial financial burden to her family, as her parents, Gonca and Mehmet Soyer, will need to be with her throughout her treatment.
We are Fatih Gorunmek and Sergazy Nurbavliyev. We will be in charge of the funds, which will go 100% to the care and well-being of Azra Sena Soyer over the next 2.5 -years.
The fund will be used for at-home around-the-clock care for Azra Sena. It will also be used for transportation to and from any and all hospitals, clinics, and other medical locations, and home care assistance. Although insurance covers all the expenses after the deductibles, It will also be used for some medical care (co-pay for weekly visits and drugs) and activities for her well-being.
