Help autistic Nick buy a boat to clean up sewage

Donation protected

My name is Nick, I have Aspergers, a form of autism and I have been using almost every day I have off for 11 years, to help save the animals and fish in my local rivers and habitats.  I only work part-time , normally 1 day a week because I often find social interaction painful and it can be emotionally exhausting.

10 days ago, I discovered that my childhood fishing spot, two rivers called the Slade brook and the River Ise, which I have passionately protected for over a decade, have been decimated by a sewage overflow, allowed by Anglian Water, to stop flooding of homes.  This environmental disaster, released an estimated 30,000 plastic Sanitary towels, Tampons and wet wipes, into the biodiverse habitat, destroying the fish populations and contaminating the entire riverbed and banks, with raw sewage and all the items that people are not supposed to flush, but do.

For 8 days straight, I have spent my days, manually picking up each sanitary towel, tampon and wipe.  I have managed to collect 15,000 items so far, just from 100 metres of one small brook.  I am sooo sad and upset about this horrible negligence and animal cruelty, at times I have felt like giving up.  For so many years, I felt in control of the beautiful rivers that i guard, removing the plastic, so that the animals could raise their young and not have to suffer the poisons that we inflict upon them.  This spill has ruined 11 years of pride and love and I feel utter despair, that no-one else in our community, had even noticed that this had happened.

I am going to beat this terrible set-back, on my own, if necessary, , every day I have, until I remove the last wet wipe.  Most of the pollution is unseen, on the riverbed, or inaccessible in the trees, because the water was so high.

To win this dirty and difficult fight, I need an inflatable boat, a garden rake, a pair of wellies and a 12ft litter picker, so that I can reach every single last piece of toxic plastic, that has destroyed our wonderful haven for wildlife.

I would be so grateful if you could help fight the plastic crisis in our rivers and seas.  Even if we get nothing from this fundraiser, I’m going to fight every day I can, with whatever equipment we can find.  Having just the 12ft picker, will expand our reach so much, that the birds can nest in trees without being surrounded by humanraw sewage.  A boat is probably beyond realistic, but anything I can get to make cleaning up easier, will push back against this reckless indifference to animals who can’t sdefend themselves.  Thank you soo sooo much.  Nick❤️
